Hosted by Bonus Miles Outdoors in partnership with the Smith Mountain Lake YMCA, Frostbite combines a scenic 5K trail race with an optional plunge into the chilly waters of Smith Mountain Lake. Whether you're chasing a fast finish, enjoying a winter hike, or just brave enough to take the plunge, there's a way for everyone to join the fun! Choose your adventure: the Frostbite 5K, the Frostbite Plunge, or the Frostbite Challenge combining both! Runners and hikers of all paces are welcome. No running is required to participate in the plunge. The 5K kicks off at 11am, followed by the official group polar plunge and photo at noon. Plunge activities will be available from 11am to 1pm, with race awards and celebration around 12:30pm. The beach will be the center of the action, with music, warming areas, hot beverages, and complimentary refreshments. Beach restrooms and showers will be open, so plunge participants can rinse off and change into warm, dry clothes afterward. State park parking is included with registration! A portion of event proceeds will benefit the Smith Mountain Lake YMCA, and participants can make an additional donation during event registration and on-site to support its community programs.
