The 4th Annual Swayze Classic raised over $7,500 for PanCAN in Nashville. A fun run with 80s vibes, community spirit, and a powerful cause.

The Nations showed up big this year. At the 4th Annual Swayze Classic, runners, walkers, families, and friends came together in neon spandex and 80s spirit to raise over $7,500 for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN). What started just a few years ago as a last-minute idea before a neighborhood party has now become a beloved tradition and a powerful fundraiser.

How It All Began

Back in 2022, a few friends pulled together a fun run ahead of The Centennial’s annual St. Patrick Swayze Day celebration. Inspired by Patrick Swayze’s legacy and his battle with pancreatic cancer, the group decided to make it more than just a jog through The Nations. That first year raised nearly $900 for PanCAN, proving the community was ready to rally around a cause.

Since then, the Swayze Classic has grown each year. More runners. More costumes. More energy. And most importantly, more funds raised to fight one of the deadliest cancers.

Year 4: The 2025 Swayze Classic

This year’s event was the biggest yet. On Saturday, August 16th, the streets of The Nations filled with runners, walkers, strollers, and four-legged friends decked out in Swayze-inspired looks. With distances of about two and four miles, the run wasn’t about pace but about participation, laughter, and community.

After the run, participants celebrated with an early-access pass to St. Patrick Swayze Day at The Centennial, complete with beer, music, and all the vibes you’d expect from one of Nashville’s quirkiest traditions. The raffle prizes were a highlight again this year, ranging from incredible local giveaways to a few wildcards straight from McKays.

What Makes It Special

The Swayze Classic isn’t just another fun run. It’s a grassroots movement with a mission: to support research, raise awareness, and honor Patrick Swayze’s memory while celebrating what makes The Nations such a unique community. With every registration, donation, and raffle ticket, participants are fueling progress toward earlier detection and better treatment options for pancreatic cancer.

And of course, it’s also about the joy of neon spandex, mullets, and Swayze-themed costumes, because no one puts this run in the corner.

Looking Ahead

The Swayze Classic has now raised tens of thousands over its short history, and the momentum keeps growing. Next year, we’re setting our sights even higher with more participants, more fundraising, and more unforgettable Swayze spirit.

If you missed this year, don’t worry. Mark your calendar, dig through those thrift stores, and get ready for year 5. Together, we’re proving that fitness, fun, and community can truly make a difference.
