Join us for the fifth annual Cocoa Classic 5K — a fun, fast, USATF-certified loop course that can be used as a qualifier for the AJC Peachtree Road Race.
The Cocoa Classic was founded here in Sandy Springs by Collin Maher as a Mount Vernon sophomore, after he noticed kids at a local food bank wearing worn-out shoes. What started as an Eagle Scout project has put new shoes on more than 1,600 children.
Collin died by suicide in May 2026, weeks after finishing his freshman year at Washington University in St. Louis. He was 19.
The race continues in his name, with an expanded mission. Proceeds now support mental health work reaching teens and young adults before a crisis, not after — alongside our continuing partnership with Shoes That Fit, which provides new athletic shoes to elementary students in need.
Registration $45 — on or before January 20 $50 — January 21 through February 19 $55 — race day
Registration opens at 8:00 a.m. The race starts promptly at 9:00 a.m.
Every finisher receives a Cocoa Classic YETI cup and hot cocoa. Road Runner Sports gift cards for winners.
