    About This Event

Established in 2006, the Hawthorn Half Day Relay & Ultra is a one-of-a-kind endurance event welcoming runners and walkers of all levels. In 2027, we’re proud to celebrate our 21st anniversary—and we’d love for you to be part of it!

Choose between a 6-hour or 12-hour race, both starting at 7:00 a.m. Participants compete on a scenic 5K loop of trail and road. To ensure every lap counts, a ½-mile short course will be available during the final 30 minutes of the race.

    Race Categories

6-Hour: Solo or Teams of 2–3 12-Hour: Solo, Teams of 3–6

Whether you’re running solo, walking laps, or relaying with friends, there’s a category for you.

The Course & Runners Village Every loop brings you through Runners Village, where you’ll have a designated space for your tent, crew, and gear. You’ll also pass Race Headquarters, fully stocked with cold drinks, snacks, and essentials to keep you fueled all day.

Campgrounds along the course will be open for optional camping and include restrooms and water stations. This setup makes Hawthorn Half Day especially family- and crew-friendly—plenty of chances to cheer runners on lap after lap!

What Can You Do in Half a Day?

At Hawthorn Half Day, there is no set distance, only time, movement, and community. Take one lap or many. Set a goal or let the day unfold.

This race is about showing up, sharing miles, and finding your rhythm together.

Go solo or team up. Run, walk, or shuffle your way through as many miles as you can. Relay teams can split the distance however they choose, making this a great option for first-timers and seasoned ultrarunners alike.
