    About This Event

    J. L. Mann High School Key Club will host our fifth Race for a Reason, a 5K Color Run/Walk at 9:00 am on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at J. L. Mann High School. This year the beneficiary of our event is Touched By ALS. Touched By ALS is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting individuals and their families facing ALS, a progressive, terminal disease that makes the brain stop talking to the muscles, eventually leading to full-body paralysis. It affects every physical ability while the mind remains sharp and aware. The organization supports individuals and their families facing the impact of ALS by easing the financial, emotional, and everyday burdens that this disease creates. They exist to provide stability, dignity, and allow families to focus on what matters most — time together. No one should have to worry about dying while also worrying about how they are going to keep the lights on.

Money raised will directly support Touched By ALS’ missions, which are making a huge difference in the lives of children and adults in the Upstate of South Carolina. With a growing number of cases in Greenville—up 50% in recent years—and average out-of-pocket care costs around $120,000 even after insurance, the organization aims to ease the significant financial and emotional burdens of the disease. ALS impacts not only the patient but also profoundly changes the lives and roles of their loved ones. Touched By ALS helps support these families by providing guidance, resources, and financial assistance. They offer several needs-based programs designed to support families at different stages of their journey with ALS.

We hope this can be a fun experience for all participants. All ages are welcome to enjoy the fun. The cost to register is $10. You can also purchase a 5k shirt for an additional charge.
