Flex your athletic and artistic skills during this unique family friendly event at the Nine Mile Forest Recreation Area organized in collaboration with the Wausau Nordic Ski Club, Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, and visiting artist Marina Mangubi.

Join us for what is truly a unique event that has never been tried anywhere in the world (at least as far as we know)! A painting biathlon! You read that right. You ski for 2k, paint a picture, then ski for final 2k. Winners will be based on time and judging.

The registration is free, but spaces are limited.

Event Structure: The event will be set to have two ski sections and a painting session. Participants will ski 2K to the painting range where they will have 15 minutes of untimed race to complete their painting. The participant will have up to 25 minutes to complete their painting but after 15 minutes, the clock will resume and in essence, be added to their second 2k time. Once the race is completed, paintings will be judged and combined with their ski times to determine the overall winners.

Divisions: There will be two broad age groups; ages 15 and under and 16 and over. You can select either to skate or classic ski.

Race Times:

10:00 am: Ages 16 and over - Skate 10:45 am: Ages 16 and over - Classic 11:30 am: Ages 15 and under - Skate and Classic

All levels of skiing and art experience are welcome. Art materials and ski rentals will be provided. Spectators are also invited to join outdoor and indoor art activities hosted by Museum staff during this free, one-day event.
