13th Annual CANE FIELD CLASSIC
Called “the quintessential Louisiana race” by a Louisiana ultrarunning legend, the Cane Field Classic is a race you don't want to miss.
And after four years away...
THE CANE FIELD CLASSIC IS BACK. This isn't a road race with a little Louisiana flavor added afterward. This is Louisiana.
Runners race down headlands—dirt field roads—surrounded by mature sugarcane and freshly harvested fields. You'll run alongside large canals, through working agricultural land, and catch a distant view of the Louisiana State Capitol rising above the horizon.
The Cane Field Classic is truly a race unlike any other.
Come experience the annual family reunion that is the Cane Field Classic, complete with live Zydeco, Cajun and Louisiana-inspired music, great Cajun food, cold refreshments, fresh-cut sugarcane, and plenty of post-race fun.
CHOOSE YOUR RACE SUGAR MILE — 1 MILE One fast mile through the cane fields.
Register for the Sugar Mile individually or run it as the first leg of the Machete 7.
CANE FIELD 4 MILER — 4 MILES Four miles through the Louisiana sugarcane fields that made this race famous.
Register for the Cane Field 4 Miler individually or run it as the second leg of the Machete 7.
MACHETE 7 — 7 TOTAL MILES Want the whole Cane Field experience?
This is it.
The Machete 7 combines all three Cane Field Classic races:
Sugar Mile — 1 Mile Cane Field 4 Miler — 4 Miles Rows of Hell — 2 Miles
1 + 4 + 2 = 7 MILES. The infamous Rows of Hell is exclusive to Machete 7 participants and cannot be entered as an individual race.
Complete all three races and claim what just might be...
“THE MOST DANGEROUS RUNNING MEDAL IN THE WORLD.” Yes, it's a machete. Yes, it will cut. Yes, it will chop. Yes, it is branded with the Cane Field Classic race logo. And yes... it is badass.
You don't buy this medal.
YOU EARN IT. RACE DAY SCHEDULE 6:30–7:30 AM — Race-Day Registration 6:30–7:30 AM — Packet Pickup 7:45 AM — Sunrise Yoga Warm-Up 8:00 AM — Sugar Mile 8:30 AM — Cane Field 4 Miler 9:30 AM — Rows of Hell 2 Miler — Machete 7 participants only

AWARDS Sugar Mile Top 3 Male & Female
Cane Field 4 Miler Top 3 Male & Female
Rows of Hell 2 Miler Top 3 Male & Female Machete 7 Participants
Machete 7 Challenge Top 10 Male & Female
All runners must be officially registered for the races in which they participate. The Rows of Hell is available only as part of the Machete 7 Challenge.
A WORD OF WARNING... This is a real Louisiana sugarcane field.
The fields are inspected before race day, but this isn't pavement.
Ruts, tire tracks, holes, mud, uneven ground, and other naturally occurring changes in the terrain cannot all be prevented.
Trail shoes are not required, but older shoes you don't mind getting dirty are highly recommended, especially if rain has fallen during the week leading up to the race.
THE ROWS OF HELL There's a reason you have to earn your way into this one.
The Rows of Hell takes Machete 7 runners through the middle of an uncut sugarcane field, weaving down rows and across rough, uneven terrain.
The terrain is not level, and conditions can range from dry and hard-packed to extremely muddy.
Depending on the height and condition of the cane, runners may want to wear a lightweight long-sleeve shirt and/or running pants. Sugarcane leaves can scratch exposed skin.
You've been warned.
LATE REGISTRATION & SHIRTS Registering within two weeks of race day?
Unfortunately, we do not own a magic crystal ball, so we cannot accurately predict shirt sizes for late registrations.
We'll do our best, but participants registering within two weeks of the event are not guaranteed a shirt on race day.
If your shirt is unavailable, it will be available for pickup at a later date. If shipping is required, shipping costs will be the financial responsibility of the participant.
Thanks for understanding!
RACE POLICIES RAIN, CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS We will do everything reasonably possible to make sure the Cane Field Classic takes place.
However:
No refunds. No rain checks. No deferrals.
All registrations are final.
BIB TRANSFERS / SALES / SWAPS We do not offer bib transfers, bib sales, swaps, exchanges, or deferrals.
All sales are final. Please do not ask.
NO-SHOWS & RACE SWAG If you don't attend and would like your eligible race swag shipped, we'll be happy to send it to you at your expense.
However—and we can't believe this actually needs to be said—registering for the race does not entitle you to a finisher award if you don't finish the race.
No finish = no finisher dog tag.
And definitely no machete.
Only participants who actually start and finish the applicable race or challenge will receive its corresponding finisher award.
SAME DIRT. NEW STORIES. Four years later, we're finally going back to the cane fields.
Welcome back to the Cane Field Classic.
