In April 2025, our sister, Mallory Mayor, was struck by a car while leaving a music festival in Boone. She was rushed to the hospital with a brain bleed, skull fracture, and broken femur.
Since the accident, Mallory has made incredible strides in her recovery. Every day, she continues to work extremely hard toward regaining the abilities she had before her injury. One of Mallory’s biggest challenges following her traumatic brain injury (TBI) is aphasia, a condition that affects the brain’s ability to communicate through speech and language. While Mallory is able to speak, intensive outpatient speech and language therapy could make a tremendous difference in her continued recovery.
However, insurance will not cover the therapy because it is not considered “medically necessary.” Mallory has been accepted into a program that is recognized as one of the best in the country. This program could be a crucial step toward helping her regain her full communication abilities, but it comes with a significant financial cost.
