Follow runners live
On race day you can follow up to ten runners on a race's results page and watch their progress: each timing mat they cross and their finish, as the timer posts them.

Following is on during race day for races that post live results on Run This. When it is on, the race page shows a Follow runners live button, and the race's results page shows a Follow runners live card at the top. If you don't see either, the race isn't posting live results on Run This.
What you see depends on the race's timing. When the timer sends times from mats along the course (for example at mile 3 and mile 10), each runner's mats show up as they cross them. When the timer only posts finishes, you see the finish time and place.
Open the race's results
Tap Follow runners live on the race page, or open the race's results page. In the Run This app, open the race and tap Follow runners live, or open its results.Search by name
Type at least two letters of the runner's name in the search box on the Follow runners live card.Tap Follow
The runner joins your Following list. You can follow up to ten runners in one race. Tap the X next to a runner to stop following them.
The Following list checks for news every 20 seconds while the page is open. For each runner it shows the last timing mat they crossed and their time from their own start, a chip for every mat so far, and their finish time and overall place once they finish. On the website, See the full result opens their finisher page with every split.
Signed in, following a runner also turns on push alerts for them: one when they cross a timing mat and one when they finish. Tap the bell next to a runner to turn their alerts off or back on. Alerts reach you if you have the Run This app with notifications allowed, or if you turned on notifications for runthis.run in your browser (see Notifications). If you followed someone before signing in, tap their bell to get alerts.
To turn off every race-day alert at once, switch off Runners you follow in your push notification settings. In the Run This app it is in Settings, under Push Notifications.
Alerts only go to people who follow a runner. Run This never sends one to the runner.
- Anyone registered for a distance whose live results the race has turned on.
- Runners who turned off Let people follow me during races show in the search with a note and can't be followed.
- Runners under 18 on race day can be followed only by the account that registered them, so a parent can follow their child and nobody else can.
- A runner with a private account shows up only for people they approved as followers, the same as on the race's Start Line.
Open Edit profile and switch off Let people follow me during races. In the Run This app, it is in Settings, under Edit Profile and My Info. Anyone already following you stops seeing your mats and finish and stops getting alerts about you. Your published results stay on the race's results page either way.
