    For race directors

    Selling through Shopify

For race companies whose registration money should land in their own Shopify store, right next to the rest of what they sell. Your race is built on Run This as normal, athletes register on Run This, and they pay in your own Shopify checkout.

    How it works

You build your event on Run This exactly like any other race: distances, pricing, waivers, custom questions, all of it. Once you connect a Shopify store, Run This creates a matching product in your catalog, one variant per distance. Athletes still register through Run This, choosing a distance, answering your questions, signing the waiver, joining a team. At the point where they'd normally pay, they're handed off to your own Shopify checkout. The money settles directly in your Shopify balance and pays out on your usual Shopify payout schedule.

    Connecting your store

    1. Open your event's Payments page

Director dashboard → Payments (under Manage event).
    2. Connect Shopify

Choose Sell through your Shopify store, enter your store's permanent domain (it ends in .myshopify.com, and you can find it in Shopify under Settings, Domains), then Connect Shopify. You'll approve the connection on a Shopify screen and land back on Run This.
    3. Attach this event

Enter that same domain again and choose Attach this event. A dialog shows the billing terms; accept them and Run This creates the matching product in your Shopify catalog, and the Payments page shows Connected.

    One store, every event

A Shopify connection isn't per event. Once your store is connected, attach any future event to it the same way, straight from that event's own Payments page.

    What stays exactly the same

Selling through Shopify only changes how registration is paid for. Everything else on your dashboard works exactly like it does for any other event:

    • Check-in, and every athlete's check-in QR pass
    • Bib assignments
    • Heats
    • Race results
    • Teams
    • Waivers and custom registration questions
    • Registration codes
    • Volunteer signups (unpaid ones)
    • Polls
    • To-dos and director messages
    • Emails and the email builder
    • Info sections, page style, and Course Studio
    • Co-directors
    • The event wall and announcements
    • Insights, the waiting list, and capacity limits

    What's turned off, and why

A handful of features move money through Run This directly, rather than through your own checkout. Those aren't available on a Shopify event, and each one says so right where you'd normally find it:

    • Coupon codes. Coupon codes aren't available for this event because registrations are priced and paid in your Shopify checkout.
    • The fundraiser and donations. The fundraiser and donations run through Run This payouts, which this event doesn't use.
    • Sponsor invoicing. Card payment links for sponsor invoices run through Run This payouts, which this event doesn't use. You can still track sponsors, show their logos, and mark an invoice paid once the money arrives through your own books.
    • Age-based pricing. Shopify prices the checkout from your product's variants, which carry one price per distance, so age-based pricing isn't available.
    • Priced giveaways. A priced add-on can't be charged outside your Shopify checkout. Free giveaways, including sizes, work normally.
    • Timer fees. A timer fee is charged on top of registration through Run This payouts, which this event doesn't use. The timing tools themselves work normally.
    • Self-serve transfers. Self-serve transfers charge the price difference through Run This payouts, which this event doesn't use. You can still move a registrant to a different distance yourself from the roster; no money moves.
    • Priced volunteer giveaways. Priced volunteer giveaways are charged through Run This payouts, which this event doesn't use. Free volunteer giveaways work normally.
    • Series bundles. Series bundle pricing is charged through Run This payouts, so a series bundle can't include this event.

One more thing worth knowing: a price increase changes what your Shopify product charges only after that product re-syncs, so a registrant can end up paying the old price for a little while after you raise it. Use Sync now on the Payments page after any price change, or keep your prices flat.

    Refunds

Issue a money refund from your Shopify admin, the same way you would for any other order. Refunding it there releases that runner's spot on Run This automatically.

If you just need to free up a spot without giving money back, a no-show or a name change, cancel the registration from Run This instead. The spot opens up, and no money moves, because Run This never held that runner's payment in the first place.

    The fee

Run This takes nothing out of your Shopify sale. The money runners pay lands in your own Shopify balance and pays out on your own Shopify schedule. Run This bills you separately instead, and you agree to the terms before an event can be connected to your store.

The fee is $1.00 for each paid registration taken through Run This for that event. Free entries cost nothing.

Refunds. If you refund a registration before Run This has billed for it, it is not billed at all. Once a fee has been billed it is not refunded or credited back, the same way the processing fees on your own sales are not returned to you when you refund a customer.

When you are billed. Run This bills the card you keep on file once a month, for the registrations taken the month before. If the amount owed passes $500 before the month is out, it may be billed then instead of waiting. You can see the running total, and the registrations behind it, on the event's Payments page at any time before a bill is charged.

If a bill ever looks wrong, contact Run This and we will sort it out. Please do that before disputing the charge with your bank.
