Gift registrations
Some races let you buy an entry as a present. You pay now, the recipient registers later with a code, fills in their own details and signs their own waiver.

Look for the Gift button under Register on the race page. It only shows when the race sells gift registrations and they are on sale.
Sign in and pick a distance
Gifts are bought from your Run This account, so the receipt and the codes land with you. Pick the distance the recipient will run. Each gift is for one distance; after redeeming, the recipient can switch distances the usual way if the race allows transfers.Say who it is for
Enter their name. Add their email if you want Run This to send them the gift right away, or leave it blank to surprise them. A short note goes on the card and in their email.Choose how much to cover
By default you pay the distance's current price, plus the race's timing fee when it has one and the usual processing fee. Tick Cover part of the entry to give a share instead (from $5 up to the full price); the recipient pays the rest when they redeem. You can add up to ten gifts in one checkout.Pay
Pay by card. You get a receipt with every code, a printable gift card for each one, and a redeem link you can forward. In the Run This app, open the race, tap Gift, and the same steps run on your phone; the codes show on the last screen with a Copy redeem link button.
Anyone with a gift code can redeem it, like a gift card. Keep it for the person it is meant for.
- My races, Gifts tab lists every gift you have bought, with its code, the gift card, Copy redeem link, and Email it or Send again while the gift is waiting.
- A gift holds a spot in its distance until it is redeemed, so the race cannot sell out from under it. Even when that distance shows sold out, the person using the gift can still pick it.
- You get an email the moment the recipient registers with your gift.
- A gift can be redeemed while registration for its distance is open (some distances keep their own registration dates). If nobody has used it a week before that registration closes, Run This reminds the recipient (or you, when you did not give their email).
- If a gift is never redeemed, the race keeps the entry like a no-show. Ask the race director about a refund; they can refund a gift from their dashboard. Run This and processing fees are not refunded.
You register for the race yourself, with your own details and your own waiver signature, and the gift pays for the entry.
- Open the link from your gift email or card. It takes you to the race's registration with the code already filled in and the right distance picked. Or open the race page, press Register, and type the code into Have a gift code? at checkout.
- Sign in or create a free Run This account, then fill in your details like any registration.
- Pick the distance the gift was bought for. A gift code only works on that distance; the checkout tells you which one if you picked another.
- At checkout the gift shows as a line of its own. If it covered the whole entry, you pay nothing for the entry. If the buyer covered a share, you pay the rest plus the processing fee. Items you add and a donation are extra.
In the Run This app, open the race, tap Register, and enter the code under Have a gift code? on the checkout screen.
A gift can go toward a dependent: add your child as the registrant on the gift's distance and apply the code the same way.
- One gift code per checkout. Two gifts for two people are two checkouts.
- A gift and a coupon can be used together; the coupon is applied first. If the coupon already makes the entry free, the gift is not needed and checkout asks you to remove one of them.
- Youth and other age-based prices are not refunded against a gift: the gift covers up to the amount the buyer paid.
- Once redeemed, the registration is yours. Switching distances and refunds work as they do for any registration; a refund of the entry returns what you paid, and the buyer's share is the race director's call.
