Gift registrations
A gift registration is an entry someone buys for another person. The buyer pays now, the recipient registers later with a code, with their own details and waiver. Off by default; turn it on per race.

A Gift button appears under Register on your race page as soon as gifts are on sale.Pick which distances can be gifted (optional)
Leave every box unticked to offer all priced distances. Team distances are never giftable, because a team entry needs a team choice the buyer cannot make for someone else.Set a sales window (optional)
By default gifts sell whenever registration is open. Set Gift sales open and Gift sales close (in your event's timezone) to sell them for a shorter stretch, for example the weeks before the holidays. A gift can always be redeemed until registration closes, whatever the sales window says.
- The buyer pays the distance's standard price at the time of purchase (no age pricing, since the buyer does not know the recipient's birthday), or a share of it from $5 up when they choose to cover part. They also pay your timing fee when you have one, and the usual processing fee.
- Your race receives the entry money when the gift is bought, exactly as it would for a registration. On Finance insights it counts as entry revenue on that day.
- When the recipient redeems, their registration shows what the gift covered and they pay only the rest (plus processing on that rest). The timing fee is not charged a second time.
- Each gift holds a spot in its distance from the moment it is bought: it counts in the distance's registered count and can flip the distance to sold out. The person using the gift can still pick that distance, and redeeming it adds no second count.
Finances, then Gifts lists every gift bought for your race: who bought it, who it is for, the distance, the code, what it covers, and whether it is waiting, redeemed, expired or refunded.
- Send again emails the gift to the recipient, or to another address when the buyer gave none. Handy when a recipient says the email never arrived.
- Gift card opens the printable card the buyer sees.
- Refund returns the buyer's share of the entry to their card. On a gift that is still waiting, the code stops working and the spot opens up again. On a redeemed gift, the recipient's registration stays on the roster; cancel it from Registrations if that is the intent. Run This and Stripe fees are not refunded, like any refund.
A gift can be redeemed while registration for its distance is open, in the edition it was bought for. A distance with its own registration dates (set in Sub-events) uses those. A week before that registration closes, Run This emails the recipient (or the buyer, when no recipient email is known) one reminder. After it closes the gift has expired: the money stays with your race like a no-show, and the spot stays counted. If the buyer asks, refund the gift from the Gifts page.
- A registration paid with a gift carries the gift's code and the buyer's name in its payment details, so a support question (“why did she pay $0?”) answers from the roster.
- Distance transfers price the move from the entry price the gift covered, not from the remainder the runner paid, so a runner who switches distances owes only the difference between the two prices.
- Refunding such a registration from Registrations returns what the runner themselves paid. The buyer's share is refunded separately, from the Gifts page.
