Charity entries (Run for Free)
Some races offer a distance you enter for free by pledging to raise a set amount for the race's charity. Friends and family give on your fundraising page. If you are still short on the race's charge date, the card you saved is charged the rest.

Pick the charity entry distance
Races usually name it so you can tell, for example "Half Marathon: Run for Free". Its price shows as free. Some races hand out a code for it, so you may need one from the charity.Read your pledge
At checkout a box says how much you are pledging, who it is for, and the charge date. If you are registering someone else (a child, for example), the pledge is in their name and your card backs it.Save a card and tick the box
Enter a card under Card for your pledge. Nothing is charged today. Tick the box that says you pledge to raise the amount by the charge date or pay the difference to that card, then press Register for free. If your cart also has something to pay for, like a shirt, the card you pay with is the one saved for the pledge. In the Run This app, tick the pledge box and tap Continue, then save your card and tap Register for free.
Your pledge works like a fundraising goal you can't lower. Open My races and find the race: the pledge card shows what you have raised, what is left, and the charge date. Use Copy link or Share to send your fundraising page to friends and family. Every gift through your page counts toward your pledge. Edit note changes the short "why I'm running" line on your page. In the Run This app, open My registrations and tap the race to see the same card.
- Pay the rest now opens your own fundraising page with the amount still short filled in, so you can finish the pledge yourself any time.
- Change card saves a different card for the pledge. Only the person who checked out can change it.
- Run This emails you, and sends a push notification, 14 days, 7 days and 1 day before the charge date while you are still short.
- Raised the full amount or more? Nothing is charged, and gifts keep counting.
- Still short? The saved card is charged exactly what is left. It counts as a gift to the race's charity on your own fundraising page, and you get the normal donation receipt by email. A shortfall under $1 is not charged.
- If the card is declined, you get an email with Pay now and Change card, and Run This tries again 3 days and 7 days after the charge date. A new card is charged right away.
- Canceling your registration does not cancel the pledge: it still stands until the race excuses it, and your fundraising page keeps taking gifts toward it. Ask the race director if you need to be let off what is left.
- If the race is canceled, every pledge ends and nobody is charged.
- A charity entry can't move to another distance or be given to someone else.
- If you delete your Run This account, your saved card is deleted and the pledges you pay for end.
