Charity entries (Run for Free)
A charity entry is a distance runners enter for free by pledging to raise a set amount. Each runner saves a card at checkout. On the charge date you pick, anyone still short is charged the rest, as a gift to your charity.

- Runner fundraising must be on: the race needs a fundraiser with Individual registrants can fundraise turned on (see Setting up a fundraiser). That is where runners raise their pledge.
- With a charity partner connected, gifts and shortfall charges settle in the charity's own account. Without one, they go to your race's payout account.
- Charity entries aren't available on a race that sells registrations through its own online store.
Add a distance for it
Most races keep the paid distance and add a second one, for example "Half Marathon: Run for Free". Give it a private code if the charity hands out the entries.Turn on Charity entry
In the distance's settings, switch on Charity entry (Run for Free). The price becomes "Free (runners pledge instead)". In the Run This app, the switch is in the distance's Pricing section.Set the pledge and the charge date
Enter the Pledge amount and the Charge date. The date starts 7 days after race day, so gifts that come in after the race still count. Runners get an email and a push 14, 7 and 1 days before it. Registration for this distance closes when the charge date arrives.
On Registrations, four tiles show how many runners pledged, the total pledged, what they have raised so far, and how many have met their pledge. Add the Pledge column to see each runner's status: what they have left to go, Met, Charged the rest, Card failed, or Excused. Open a registration to see its pledge in detail. In the Run This app, each registration shows its pledge status, and the same four tiles are on the race's Fundraiser page. Your charity partner's contact sees the same list on their charity partner page, with first names only.
A canceled registration's pledge still stands, which is how most charities run charity entries. To let a runner off what is left (an injury, a cancellation, a close miss), open their registration and press Excuse the rest. Their card won't be charged and Run This emails them. What they raised stays with the charity. If you cancel the whole race, every pledge ends and nobody is charged. In the Run This app, open the registration from your race's registrations and tap Excuse the rest on its Pledge card.
- A charity entry has no entry fee, so there is no Run This fee on the entry itself.
- Gifts and shortfall charges are donations, with the usual donation fee. A shortfall charge takes exactly what the runner is short, and the fee comes out of it, like a gift whose donor did not cover fees.
- Every shortfall charge sends the runner the normal donation receipt.
- A declined card is tried again 3 and 7 days after the charge date, and the runner can pay or change their card any time.
